Celebrating the Life of Bro. Edwin Eason Sr.

Posted

Edwin Eason Sr. “Rip Saw,” beloved husband, dad, granddad, brother, first man, and friend was called to eternal rest on March 2, 2024. Edwin was born in Norfolk County, Virginia on August 4, 1953, to Ella Eason and Linwood Eason Sr. He attended New Foreman Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, where he accepted Jesus as his personal savior.

Edwin attended Chesapeake public schools and went on to work for Arnette Construction Company. In 1973, he married his childhood sweetheart, Alvania Tillett. He worked for the International Longshoremen’s Association for several years. Edwin was well-loved by all.

Edwin worked faithfully in the church throughout the years as the trustee, janitor, soloist, preacher’s steward, and first man to Pastor Alvania Eason. Edwin’s voice was one of a kind and he was often asked about joining quartet/choir groups in the area. He loved his suits and dressing well to serve in the Lord’s house on Sundays. He loved spending time with his family and friends, taking care of lawns, and sitting on his porch. He was a lawn manicurist for years and was loved by his community. One of his favorite songs was “I’m on my home” by the Canton Spirituals. He knew that one of these days, he would make it to his heavenly home.

He was preceded in his journey to rest by his parents, Ella Eason and Linwood Eason Sr., maternal and paternal grandparents, daughter La’Vania Eason, sister Harriett Burgess, and brother Isaiah “Ike” Eason Sr.

He leaves to cherish his glorious memories: his beloved wife, Alvania Eason; two children, Edwin Eason Jr. and Angel Eason; two grandchildren, Markayle Ferebee and Destiny Ferebee; two sisters, Mary F. Edwards and Debora Eason; four brothers, Linwood Eason Jr., Shelton Eason (Evelyn), Neal Eason, and Leroy Eason; mother-in-law Rev. Lillie Gray, three aunts, and one uncle, as well as a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Edwin will truly be missed as he was deeply loved by his family, New Foreman Temple A.M.E. Zion Church family, and friends. More than anything, he was loved by God. He may no longer be with us in body, but he will always be with us in spirit, for his memory will live on in our hearts forever.
