Torch Bearer Award Recipient from University of Kentucky

On Friday evening, October 7, 2016, the African American Alumni Association held its 26th Annual Lyman T. Johnson “Upholding the Torch of Excellence” Awards Ceremony at the University of Kentucky (UK) in Lexington, KY. This was also Homecoming Weekend at UK. Among the reward recipients were nine UK students representing different colleges of the University.

Representing the College of Communication and Information was Miss Taylor Gadberry, member of Stoner Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in Louisville, KY. The program noted Taylor as “…a student leader who is highly ambitious. She was elected to serve as the president of the student chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists for two terms. Not only is Gadberry involved in co-curricular activities, but she is able to balance these activities while maintaining a stellar GPA. Additionally, she studied in Spain. It is not enough for her to accomplish her goals, but she recognizes the importance of assisting others and regularly mentors other students in the College.”

Taylor is also a member of the Black Voices Choir at UK. Before attending college at UK, Taylor represented Stoner Memorial and the Kentucky Conference at CED Regional, Mid-Winter, and Quadrennial Meetings and, in her sophomore year, was elected Junior Bishop of the Kentucky Conference. Taylor is the daughter of Rev. Tanisha Durrett, Pastor of St. James AME Zion in Central City, KY. Rev. Marcia J. Cole-Morton is her pastor; Rev. O. Lacy Evans is her Presiding Elder; Rt. Rev. Darryl B. Starnes, Sr. is her Presiding Bishop.

The entire Kentucky Conference salutes Taylor for this accomplishment.
