Little Rock AME Zion Celebrates 13th Annual Little Rock Day

Posted

CHARLOTTE, NC – Dr. Dwayne A. Walker, Pastor of Little Rock AME Zion, presented Mrs. Gloria Joyner Johnson to the congregation as the chairperson of this significant event in the life of the church on Sunday, March 4, 2018. She along with her steering committee were tasked to raise $50,000.00 for the church budget by the end of the conference year. To reach this goal, each adult member was asked to make a sacrificial offering of at least $200 and each child through college student was asked to contribute $25. The steering Committee members were Mrs. Mattie Kluttz-Awards Luncheon and Reception, Mrs. Christy Bryant-Finance, Mrs. Glain H. Lewis-Publicity and Mrs. Antoinette Cody-Souvenir Journal.

These offerings were tracked each week and posted in graph form in the Sunday bulletins by class participation showing the goal based on the number of members in the 12 classes as well as Class 13, the new members class. The class leaders, led by Mr. Gilbert McRae, were excited and encouraged their members. The successful outcome could not have been possible without the prayers and full cooperation of the ministerial staff, church leaders, members and friends of Little Rock.

Additionally, there were two “Excellence in Ministry” trees, one for adults and one for the children, in the education wing, where the names of each member who met their goal had a leaf with their name placed on the tree. There was no more room for leaves on the “Excellence in Ministry Trees” in the education wing. God is great!

Members were also asked their friends and businesses they support to support the church by purchasing ads for the 13th Annual Little Rock Day Souvenir Journal. Contributions were also received electronically by use of Pay Pal and Givelify.

Mrs. Glain H. Lewis received the “Excellence in Ministry” Award having received the majority of the votes of the members of the congregation. Thanks to her and the other nominees who multi-task at Little Rock to the Glory of God. They included Mrs. Shabara Ellis, Mrs. Kay Frazier, Ms. Sandra Lee and Mr. Rudy Miller. They all received plaques as they were the choices of the congregation to be acknowledged. The Luncheon Committee exhibited “Excellence in Ministry” in the preparation, presentation and service for the awards luncheon.

The spiritual arm of the celebration was excellent as we were led by Dr. Walker on a Prayer Walk through the uptown streets of Charlotte praying and singing the songs of Zion. Additionally, the revivalist, Rev. George W. C. Walker, Jr. truly brought a giant spark of renewal in our lives as he started by encouraging us to “Tear It Up”! Then on Little Rock Day, the sanctuary was filled to capacity as Rev. Dr. Gregory Moss brought us the Word from John 20:19-20 with the subject “In His Hands.”

When the final tally was recorded for the 13th Annual Little Rock Day, the church was blesseds with a grand total of over $54,000!
