By Mrs. Betty B. Evans

BADIN, NC – McDonald Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church ended 2020 with a grateful praise gathering to burn their mortgage. McDonald Chapel is located in Badin, North Carolina which is a part of the Concord District, West Central North Carolina Annual Conference, and the Piedmont Episcopal Area, Bishop George E. Battle, Jr., Presiding Prelate.

The church was honored to have their Presiding Elder, Rev. Dr. Kevin W. McGill, Sr., conduct the Morning Service and the Mortgage Burning Ceremony. He gave high praise to the Church for accomplishing this goal during a Pandemic and the small congregation it has. He gave special praise to Mrs. Martha L. Legrand, who made the final payment in Memory of her late Husband, Mr. Johnny W. Legrand. Mr. Legrand worked tirelessly to accomplish this goal and his wife made it come true.

The Presiding Elder also gave praise to the Pastor, Rev. Shirley A. McConnell, for her diligent guidance and sacrifices at McDonald Chapel and for accomplishing the goal of paying off a Mortgage at her first church Appointment. The Pastor graciously thanked the congregation for their determination and cooperation during this process.

The ceremony was followed by a Church Family Dinner at a local restaurant. McDonald Chapel feels blessed to be able to accomplish this goal during times like these and thank God for His goodness. They are alive and doing well.
