CHARLOTTE, NC – On Saturday, February 22, 2020, we went to the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Quiz Bowl. Winning the Quiz Bowl is why I am writing about my experience.

On Monday the 17th, we received the questions for the quiz bowl, giving us only six days to study. During the quiz bowl we had only two members present out of four. The Alpha’s offered to put two other members on our team, as the other team had four members.

But we beat the Alpha team by such a high score that when the fourth round came, they could put adults on their team and they substituted two of their members. But it was not enough and they couldn’t catch up.

I learned from this experience more about my history and many facts I didn’t already know. Facts like Spelman College is one of the oldest HBCU’s for women and how Famous Amos’ real name was Wally. The questions ranged from subjects like art and business.

With only two days to study, I memorized the answers based on the first two words. I learned that even when you are outnumbered, with the right people on your team you can win anything.

This may have been my first quiz bowl but it certainly won’t be my last! P
