Statement from the Board of Bishops

A. M. E. Zion Church

The news of the indictment and arrest of Dr. Staccato Powell and Dr. Sheila Quintana was very troubling to the members of the Board of Bishops. It has never been the desire of the Board of Bishops to pursue prosecution of Dr. Powell. Our intent was always to restore the property to the congregation that had been foreclosed on.

Upon hearing the news today, we will continue to keep Dr. Powell, Dr. Quintana, their families, the congregations that were involved as well as the A. M. E. Zion Church in our prayers. We will continue to look to our God for comfort, inspiration and directions as all of us journey through this strange place. We realize that as we journey, it is important for us to stay focused, continue to serve faithfully and to stand firm on the principles of our faith.

Dr. Kenneth Monroe, Senior Bishop and President

Board of Bishops – A. M. E. Zion Church
