The Board of Bishops Winter Meeting 2021 Goes Virtual

Posted

Special to the Star

The meeting was held in one day on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 and to accomplish all that was slated, the format was changed as well. The day began at 9:30 a.m. with the General Officers giving their pre-recorded reports via Zoom and each officer having a brief Q & A session following their respective reports. Once all of the General Officers reports were completed, the general AME Zion Church gathered together at 1:30 p.m. via Facebook, YouTube, amez.org or soznews.org to view the pre-recorded afternoon Board of Bishops Worship Service, customarily this service is first. Even though the time of day for the worship service had been changed, the worship experience remained majestic as the tradition of Zion dictates. Bishop George D. Crenshaw, Presiding Prelate of the Central Southern Africa Episcopal District, and outgoing President of the Board, brought the afternoon message entitled “ This Is My Exodus” taken from John 4: 28-29, what a word! Normally, during our past face to face meetings, the election of Board of Bishops officers are elected in the presence of the congregation, but again another tradition was changed and that election took place during a closed session of the Board with Bishop George E. Battle, Jr. being elected as President of the Board of Bishops.

The afternoon session began with the continuation of reports from the Connectional Officers, and College and Universities. This continued until 5:30 p.m. and the business of the 2021 Board of Bishops Winter meeting was complete. This one day meeting maybe a indicator of a new order for meetings to come.
