African Methodist Episcopal Zion Churches and Related Organization Selected for 2024 Equipping the Local Church Grants

The Foundation for Evangelism has chosen 51 churches and organizations to receive an Equipping the Local Church grant. Of those selected for the 2024 grant cycle, three are African Methodist Episcopal Zion Churches or related organizations:

Caldwell Temple African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church
Bronx, New York

Dept. of Church Growth & Development, Western Episcopal District
Across 7 States

Smith Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church
Anniston, Alabama

The selected proposals reflect an array of initiatives, each uniquely tailored to address specific community needs. These initiatives embody a holistic approach, recognizing that true transformation arises from addressing multifaceted challenges while inviting others to engage in a transformative relationship with Jesus Christ. By intertwining practical solutions with spiritual guidance, these applicants aim to foster sustainable change that enriches both individuals and communities alike.

Rev. Dr. Heather Lear, Vice President for Grant Administration, shared, “We are excited that our Equipping the Local Church grants this year will be received across 26 states and 7 Wesleyan-tradition* denominations. In three years, we've awarded almost 1 million dollars of catalytic funding to help small and medium churches launch evangelism experiments.”

The Equipping, the Local Church Grant, builds upon The Foundation for Evangelism’s 75-year history as a catalyst to equip disciples to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. The goal of the grant is to empower teams of pastors and laity to dream, take risks, and partner with God in the transformation of lives and communities.

A total of $375,000 will be distributed through $5,000 and $10,000 micro-grants to small and medium-sized Wesleyan-tradition* churches and church-based organizations that launch an experiment or initiative to share the Gospel, tell their faith stories, and invite others into a relationship with Jesus.

We congratulate the 2024 recipients of the Equipping the Local Church Grant and can't wait to share stories from their initiatives.

*We define Wesleyan tradition as based on the ministry movement begun in the 18th century by John and Charles Wesley. Responding to God’s pursuit of us, all are invited to the lifelong journey to love God and neighbor with their whole heart.
