RALEIGH - On Saturday, Oct. 19, Repairers of the Breach, the North Carolina Poor People’s Campaign, NC Council of Churches, and Forward Justice Action Network will join forces with Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC, for a non-partisan “GOTV Pep Rally,” as part of the North Carolina Rise Up & Revival GOTV Tour across North Carolina. The tour launched last week in Raleigh and traveled to Eastern NC over the weekend.

This revival rally tour is designed to mobilize many of the 3.4 million poor and low-wage infrequent voters who live in the most neglected parts of the state. The tour, led by Bishop William J. Barber, II, president and senior lecturer of Repairers of the Breach and national co-chair of the Poor People’s Campaign, will encourage voter participation and highlight the need for a progressive vision in response to recent challenges facing workers, healthcare, voting rights, and more.

The GOTV Pep Rally will include performances by the Livingstone College Blue Thunder Marching Band and others. Rev. Dr. Anthony J. Davis, the 13th President and CEO of the College, will welcome Bishop Barber back to campus. Later that afternoon, the Livingstone College football team will take on Winston-Salem State University at 4 p.m.

During the launch of the Tour last Friday, The Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival, Forward Justice, and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund's Black Voters on the Rise announced a significant new partnership to safeguard democracy and ensure voter protection across the South.

This strategic partnership aims to address the unique challenges faced by voters in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, and Louisiana—states disproportionately impacted by both natural disasters and voter suppression efforts. Collectively, these states control 134 electoral votes and are home to over 26.7 million poor and low-wage eligible infrequent voters.
