Hines Hosts Vice President Joe Biden

Rock Hill, SC – It was a dreary, foggy, day on November 1, 2016 in Rock Hill, SC as a mammoth, jubilant crowd assembled at the Kenneth Monroe Transformation Center (KMTC) under the dynamic leadership of Bishop Mildred B. Hines to hear from Vice President Joe Biden as he traveled throughout the southern United States campaigning for the Democratic Party.

In grand fashion, Team Hines hosted the Vice President and other political candidates by providing all who attended an inspirational event. The entire South Atlantic Episcopal District (SAED) took part in the program, from the SC Hymn Choir to the SC Children’s Mass Choir, local congregational choirs also participated on the program which included the White Hill A.M.E. Zion Church Choir, the Union Ezelle A.M.E. Zion Church Choir, and the Catawba A.M.E. Zion Church Choir. The program proceeded with greetings form Bishop Hines who welcomed the candidates and the Vice President to the SAED and to the KMTC, as well as encouraged the audience to vote. The candidates that gave greetings on the program were Mr. Jim Thompson, York County Democratic Party Chairman; Mrs. Mandy Powers Norell, SC State Representative; Mr. John King, SC State Representative; Mayor Doug Echols, Rock Hill, SC; Mr. Thomas Dixon, U.S. Senate S.C. Democratic Candidate; Mr. Jaime Harrison, S.C. Democratic Party Chairman; Mr. James Clyburn, U.S. Congressman; and Mr. Fran Person, U.S. Congressional S.C. Candidate.

The climax of the event came when V.P. Biden stepped up to the podium to greet the crowd. The audience was on their feet with shouts of adulation and support. VP Biden enthusiastically spoke about the importance of people getting out to vote in this election and how we must keep America moving forward with progress.

After his rousing message, he came down to the floor and press the flesh with the children and adults, even taking the time to take “selfies.” What a historic moment in the life of the SAED, and the A.M.E. Zion Church!
