Salisbury, North Carolina - May 14, 2024 - Hood Theological Seminary proudly announces Senior Bishop Kenneth Monroe, Bishop of the Eastern North Carolina Episcopal District and the South Atlantic Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church (A.M.E.Z.), as the commencement speaker for the Class of 2024.
The commencement ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 18, at Varick Auditorium on the campus of Livingstone College (701 West Monroe Street, Salisbury, NC). The ceremony will commence promptly at 10:30 a.m.
Bishop Kenneth Monroe's esteemed leadership in the Eastern North Carolina Episcopal and the South Atlantic Episcopal Districts makes him an ideal choice to address the graduating class, said Hood Theological President Vergel Lattimore. Monroe understands the importance of seminary and its impact on ministry.
Before becoming a lead pastor within The A.M.E. Zion Church, he served as a student pastor at Livingstone College and Duke University Divinity School. He completed doctoral studies at Hartford Theological Seminary (now Hartford International University for Religion and Peace).
He is also an established author through his published memoir - "The Adventures of Uncertainty: Making the Impossible Possible with God."
The former chair of Hood’s Board of Trustees, Monroe, deeply connects to the school and will offer sound advice to the graduating class.
"Bishop Monroe is the best speaker for the 2024 Commencement because he deeply understands the challenges of preparing for and executing excellence in ministry for the 21st century,” said Hood Theological Seminary President Vergel Lattimore.
