KNOW BEFORE YOU GO (KBYG): SIERRA CLUB ED, FORMER NAACP CEO  TO ADDRESS LIVINGSTONE HONORS STUDENTS APRIL 16

Posted

WHO? Sierra Club’s first African American executive director, and former NAACP CEO, Benjamin “Ben” Jealous

WHAT? Jealous address Livingstone College students during the Dr. Samuel E. Duncan Honors Convocation ceremony on April 16

WHEN? The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. on April 16

WHERE? Varick Auditorium on the campus of Livingstone College

WHY? In his position leading the Sierra Club, Jealous – also known for leading the NAACP for five years – is elevating the national conversation about environmental racism as the result of “redlining, racist zoning practices and economic inequality”. His address to the historically black college’s honors students will be timely, given the college’s current environmental research initiative focusing on PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, commonly referred to as "forever chemicals."
