Posted

August 2025, St. Louis, MO…., On Sunday, July 14, 2024, the Livingstone Alumni Associates of Washington Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church in St. Louis, MO celebrated “Scholarship Sunday”.  Our two students returning to college were recognized for their achievements.  Sis. Darlene Smith, chairperson of the Scholarship Committee facilitated the presentation.

Jasmine Hughes (daughter of Erika Hughes, granddaughter of Sandra Carmichael and great-granddaughter of the late Elsie Carmichael), is a sophomore at Regis University in Denver, CO.  She is majoring in biology/neuroscience and aspires to be a medical doctor of anesthesiology.  She loves volleyball and takes part in the volleyball club while still studying hard and enjoying the “college” life.

Taylor Boaz (daughter of Andrea Boaz, granddaughter of the late Audrey Simms) is a junior at The University of Missouri – St. Louis.  She is majoring in biology/pre-med and aspires to be a pediatrician.  She is currently the president of the Pi Mu Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., as well as the Youth Services Coordinator.  This is the highest position an undergraduate can hold in the region.

“The Livingstone College Alumni Associates” was established as an organization under the leadership of the late Bishop Arthur Marshall around 1965.  He appointed the late Mattie L. Snow as president.  The purpose was to unite within the church group to create new activities that would benefit Livingstone College and the youth of Washington Metropolitan, to present cultural programs that would inspire members of the community and the church alike, offer scholarships to worthy boys and girls, and assist students in the furtherance of their education according to available means.  Mrs. Stella Mosby Bouie and Mrs. Claudia Rainey are two of the original members of the group and are still assisting them in various projects.

The scholarship committee also includes Ava Stegall, Lisa Robinson, and Stella Bouie.  Jeanetta Stegall is President of the organization.  They are all committed to presenting scholarships to our students yearly and to keeping the organization functioning as an important entity in the church.
