Upcoming Hood Theological Seminary Events


Hood Theological Seminary (HTS) will hold its annual Virtual Firm Foundation Covenant Service on February 8, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. This event will be virtual via Zoom. This annual service is sponsored by the Board of Bishops of the A.M.E. Zion Church, and at this special gathering, the bishops conduct a moving and inspiring service and bring collections from their Episcopal Districts in support of the Seminary.

This free event is open to the public and all are welcome. The sermon will be presented by Bishop W. Darin Moore, Presiding Prelate for the Mid-Atlantic Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. The 2023 Bishop Alfred E. and Mrs. Mamie White Endowed Heritage Lecture Series will take place on Friday, February 10, 2023, at 7:00 pm EST, and Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 10:00 am EST. The lectures will take place virtually via zoom.

The speaker will be Dr. Johnny Bernard Hill. Dr. Hill is the Leon W. Watts II Visiting Scholar in Black Theology and the Black Church at Hood Theological Seminary and Senior Pastor of the historic Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church. He also serves as Director of Corporate and Foundation Engagement at North Carolina Central University. Dr. Hill previously held the role as Dean of Shaw University Divinity School and Professor of Theology. He is author of Prophetic Rage: A Postcolonial Theology of Liberation (Eerdmans Publishers, 2013) and The First Black President: Barack Obama, Race, Politics, and the American Dream (Palgrave Macmillan, 2009).

Hood Theological Seminary is a graduate and professional school sponsored by the A.M.E. Zion Church and approved by the University Senate of The United Methodist Church. Its student body, faculty and staff currently comprise persons from many different denominations.
