By Bishop Darryl B. Starnes Sr., Senior Bishop, The A.M.E. Zion Church
It has been said that “voting is the cornerstone of democracy, a powerful tool that gives every citizen a voice in shaping the future.”
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I am Darryl Starnes, the Senior Bishop of the A.M.E. Zion Church and the Presiding Bishop of the Piedmont Episcopal District.
The A.M.E. Zion Church has always been known as the Freedom Church because it has been on the cutting edge of social justice, and voting is a major part of what we do.
The importance of voting in this election cannot be overstated. For 248 years, we have been able to maintain our democracy, allowing us to elect our leaders at every level of government.
This year’s election, more than any other in our lifetimes, will determine whether our democracy continues or becomes a dictatorship.
This might very well be our last chance to exercise the right to vote. That choice is ours right now, but it will continue to be ours only if we vote and only if we vote for the right candidates in this election. So please vote. Don’t sit this one out.
