North Charlotte District Observes Anna L. Anderson Day

Posted

The Life Members Council Chairman, Ms. Castella Conner, led the North Charlotte District in Charlotte, North Carolina, in celebration of the memory of Mrs. Anna Lucille Green Anderson at the Rockwell A.M.E. Zion Church, where Reverend Jordan Boyd is the pastor.

Ms. Cindy Saunders led the gathering in praise and worship. Following the invocation by Ms. Vivian Conner, Mrs. Jennifer Mitchell led the Litany for Self-Care and Wellness. Mrs. Helen Banks read the scripture from Matthew 5:13-16. The prayer for Self-Care and Wellness was offered by Mrs. Angela Stitt. The music for the worship service was provided by Greenville Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church; Rev. Dr, Sheldon R. Shipman is the pastor.

The Meditation was given by Mrs. Teresa M. Shipman, the First Lady of Greenville Memorial. With a focus on care and wellness and using Isaiah 41:10 as her scriptural reference, Mrs. Shipman shared her journey through cancer, from thyroid cancer to breast cancer diagnosis in 2014 and again in 2023. From being a health-conscious woman of color to a career woman married to an A.M.E. Zion preacher and taking care of her family to a woman who has been an overcomer. She pointed out three areas that might be the focus during this quadrant of the theme: Financial Health, Mental Health and Wellness, and Physical Health.

Following the invitation to Christian Discipleship by Rev. Clarence Jones, the Memorial Moment for Anna L. Anderson and deceased Life Members was acknowledged with the lighting of a memory candle and singing of the hymn, "Throw Out the LifeLine."

The report from the youth delegate from the WH&OMS 30th Quadrennial Convention, Ms. Jayla Soares, was well received and applauded as she represented the North Charlotte District in such an excellent manner.
Ms. Gloria Joyner Johnson, the Western North Carolina Conference delegate to the convention, also gave her report to the North Charlotte District.

After remarks from Mrs. Myrtle Henderson, the First Lady of the North Charlotte District, and Dr. Wardell Henderson, the Presiding Elder of the North Charlotte District, the Mass Meeting was closed with prayer and the Missionary Benediction.

The Rockwell Church was so hospitable as to provide box lunches to-go for the meeting attendees.

The significance of the contribution of Mrs. Anna L. Anderson was not lost on those in attendance, and the excellent manner in which she was remembered was evident.

To God Be The Glory!

Life Members Council, Anna L. Anderson, North Charlotte District
